The food pyramid suggests 2-3 servings of dairy per day. As a Kogel, I was raised to believe ice cream was the way to fulfill the daily requirement of calcium and protein. Family values run deep, and I refuse to see this daily ice cream allotment as anything but logical. Mind you, as a picky, health-conscious adult, I do not believe all ice creams are created equal, but both my inner child and outer “adult” agree when it comes to Leona’s Ice Cream Sandwiches. If you’re looking for a way to treat yourself, one of these ice cream sandwiches is the way!
First of all, I can’t say enough positive things about Katie & Christa, the couple behind the goodness. They’re energetic, generous, appreciative ladies who want to bring sweet smiles to all. Second of all, they named the company after their former dog, Leona, who they adopted when she was a spry 10 year old. Since she brought them much happiness, her name is sealed on every ice cream sandwich, with the hope the contents will bring happiness to the eater. Melt my ice-cream-loving, crazy-dog-lady heart, why don’t you!
Plus, these dairy-dispensing ladies are so passionate about their craft and their product, they made a manifesto!
We believe in the transformative power of food and flavor.
We know that ice cream is what dreams are made of – and we dream big.
We believe that every belly should enjoy ice cream.
We look for inspiration everywhere and know that a simple mix of milk, cream and sugar
is the most amazing canvas.
We believe in the power of personal relationships and prefer to do our business with
a handshake and a smile.
We put our money where our roots are by using local dairy and ingredients-not just because
it’s right but because our area has everything we could ask for.
We believe in ice cream, and we believe in you.
Humble, fun-lovin’ ladies + a dog story + deep values + ….
REALLY DELICIOUS ICE CREAM SANDWICHES!
Incidentally, this equation also represents the fastest way to my heart.
I hope you have the chance to eat one (or all!) of Leona’s Ice Cream Sandwiches. I can tell you from experience, they really do have the power to brighten even the crummiest of days!
