I am often asked if I work with flowers, and the answer is YES!
I think of flowers just as I think about paint, fabric and dyes. They are a medium for bringing a concept to life, transforming a space, or in the case of this late winter campaign for ModCloth, for ushering in a new season in a quirky way.
In preparation for this shoot, the art director gave me color palettes and some inspiration shots. I arrived on set with buckets upon buckets of daisies and gerbera daisies, fishing line, chicken wire, push pins and clippers. The key to this “raining daisies” look was to give the flower wall depth, not just a flat row of flowers. This gave the models plenty of room to interact with the flowers.
The next look was all about highlighting the busy floral pattern of this spring maxi dress. I used the gerbera daisies to add depth to the printed backdrop.
Behind this scene, you would have seen several stylists and an art director with fistfuls of flower petals, making it rain daisies.
